The Academy was founded in 1978 by the eminent psychologist, Neal Miller, formerly of the Rockefeller University. Its purpose was to provide a forum for established behavioral medicine researchers where ideas could be exchanged in an informal yet scientifically charges atmosphere. As such, a primary activity of the Academy is its annual meeting. In addition to exciting scientific exchanges during the meeting, an annual Neal Miller award is given for outstanding contribution to the field by a young scientist.
